The first thing you will need when applying for a student visa in Brazil is a current passport. It must be original, signed, and valid for six months beyond your stay in Brazil. It must also have at least one blank visa page available for the Brazilian visa stamp. If you are a resident of Houston, Connecticut, or Rhode Island, your passport must have at least two side-by-side pages available for stamping.

Tobago, Uganda or Venezuela. For applicants from Washington DC, the original yellow fever vaccination
certificate is required.
