Brazil Visa Insurance Requirements

If you are an international student planning to study in Brazil, you are going to need a student visa. There are several requirements necessary to apply for a student visa in Brazil, and some of these requirements vary depending on where you are from. Use this article to prepare you for the application process.

Passport

The first thing you will need when applying for a student visa in Brazil is a current passport. It must be original, signed, and valid for six months beyond your stay in Brazil. It must also have at least one blank visa page available for the Brazilian visa stamp. If you are a resident of Houston, Connecticut, or Rhode Island, your passport must have at least two side-by-side pages available for stamping.

Proof of Finances

You will need to provide evidence of adequate funds to support your stay in Brazil, such as your most recent bank statement. If you are submitting your parents’ bank statement, you will also need a letter of support from your parent(s) indicating who will be financially responsible for you while you are in Brazil.

Other Requirements

Other documents that you will need in order to apply for a student visa in Brazil include:

• Two recent 2” x 2” passport type color photographs
• Good conduct record issued by your local police department/authority
• Letter of Invitation from Brazil (such as a photocopy of your school registration or confirmation of acceptance including the address/names/qualifications of responsible parties in Brazil)
• A copy of your driver’s license (Houston jurisdiction and residents of Connecticut or Rhode Island’s driver’s license copy must be notarized)
• Copy of your birth certificate (applicants living in Houston jurisdiction need a certified birth certificate, not a photocopy)
• Applicants living in Connecticut or Rhode Island need a signed and notarized CT Letter of Authorization
• Applicants living in Boston jurisdiction need a signed Boston Letter of Authorization
• Applicants living in Boston jurisdiction also need to provide proof of international insurance coverage
  

Your birth certificate and good conduct record will need to be authenticated by the Brazilian Embassy prior to the processing of your visa. There are fees associated with this process.

Medical Requirements

Yellow fever vaccination certificate if you have traveled within the last 90 days to an endemic area, including Angola, Benin, Bissau Guinea, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Camerun, Central African Republic, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guiana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenia, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Surinam, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda or Venezuela. For applicants from Washington DC, the original yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.

• Brazilian visas cannot be changed or extended; if your travel plans change unexpectedly, you will need to apply for a new visa.
• Any visa applicant may be interviewed by a consular officer.
• The validity of your visa once it has been granted is contingent upon your entry into the country within 90 days after it has been issued.
• Any visa obtained on an emergency basis may incur an additional surcharge.
• The consulate only accepted United States Money Orders for the cost of visas.
