Grenada Visa Requirements

When studying abroad, one of the first things you will have to determine is whether or not you will need a student visa. If you are studying in Grenada, whether or not you will require a visa depends largely on is whether you will be studying at the St. George’s University or participating in a shorter-length study-abroad program.

Students of St. George’s University

Students accepted to St. George’s University are not required to carry a visa when traveling to Grenada. Instead, accepted students ought to carry several documents on their person at time of travel:

A valid passport
SGU letter of acceptance
SGU letter to the Immigration Officer
Copy of the letter from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to American Airlines.

Students carrying these required documents fall into two categories:

Visa Exempt

Students from visa-exempt countries are authorized to stay in Grenada until the end of term or the date of their return ticket (if applicable). If students wish to extend their stay up to a maximum of one year, they may request to do so at the main Immigration Office in St. George.

Visa Required

Students from countries for which Grenada requires a visa are processed upon arrival. After receiving a visa, these students are authorized to remain in Grenada till the end of term or the date of their return ticket. They may also extend their visa with the permission of the Immigration Office.

All SGU students must either enroll in the university-sponsored health program or confirm existing and adequate coverage. All SGU students are automatically enrolled the Air Assistance Plan, which includes air evacuation in cases of emergency.

Studying Abroad in Grenada Fewer than 90 Days

The Grenada Ministry of Foreign Affairs has visa exemption agreements with many countries. When staying in Grenada for 90 days or fewer, citizens from the following countries are not required to hold visas:

Commonwealth Countries:: Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Cameroon, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, St. Christopher & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Kingdom, Vanuatu, Western Samoa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Associated States & Territories:: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Cook Islands, Gibralta, Hong Kong, Pitcairn Islands, Montserrat, Niue, Norfolk Island, St. Helena, Tokelau, Turks & Caicos Islands.
European Countries:: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Rep. of Ireland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Commonwealth of Independent States:: Armenia, Azirbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia
Other:: Argentina, Bulgaria, Chile, Czech Republic, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Korea (South), Liechtenstein, Norway, Poland, Republic of China, Slovak Republic, USA, Venezuela.

Students from countries not listed above will need to apply for a visa after arriving in Grenada. In this instance, students should send IN ADVANCE of travel:

A scanned copy of the biometrics page of the passport

Students in Grenada who are not attending St. George’s University should acquire private healthcare coverage that includes air evacuation for advanced or emergency procedures.

Transit Visas

Depending upon citizenship, some students may need a visa for the countries through which they travel en route to Grenada. If your trip to Grenada will include stopping over on another island or another country, be sure to check in advance for your visa requirements.
