So why should you choose to study in Grenada?

Other programs of study offered at St. George’s University include:

  • School of Veterinary Medicine
  • School of Arts and Sciences
  • Graduate Studies programs (including MBAs in Health Management and International Business)

Health Care in Grenada

Grenada has 36 health care facilities. No household is more than three miles from a health care provider.

The quality of health care offered in Grenada is most likely not quite up to the standard to which international students are used. Grenada has 36 health care facilities: 30 medical stations and six health centers. No household is more than three miles from a health care provider. There are four public hospitals and four private hospitals on the island, and General Hospital in St. George’s University is the government’s premier facility.

The central focus of Grenada’s Ministry of Health (MOH) is to provide its citizens with high quality primary care. For this reason, primary health care services are generally offered for free at public health centers. There is no national health insurance in Grenada, but Grenadians are required to take part in a social security program, the National Insurance Scheme.

Despite the progress that Grenada has made in its primary care initiatives, the country is still behind in several key specialties, including oncology/hematology, radiology, internal medicine, and emergency medicine. Procedures such as CT scans, dialysis, and digital X-rays can only be performed by the country’s private hospitals. Because Grenadian health care is not quite up to the standards to which most visitors to the islands are used, off-island care plays a large role in emergency and advanced medical treatment in Grenada. This is expensive, and since only about 9% of Grenadians are covered by private insurance, only the wealthiest of Grenadians and European or American expatriates can afford it.

Because of the quality of health care in Grenada, international students who study there are strongly advised to purchase private health insurance before their departure.
