Italy is also home to some of the oldest universities in the world, and is the birthplace of the Bologna process, the standard in higher education in Europe and a growing in influence.
For students with an interest in history, Italy offers almost limitless draws, from ancient Roman ruins, to the birth of the Renaissance, to remnants of fascism and World War II. International students will have the opportunity to visit the ruins of Greek amphitheaters in Sicily, Monte di Paschi, the world’s oldest bank still in existence, and Mussolini’s attempt to revive the monuments of the ancient empire in Rome.
Student who study in Italy will also be exposed to a healthcare system that is very diverse. The healthcare in Italy is a mixture of private and public facilities, and some of the public facilities may have long wait times and basic facilities.
However, as an international student who is planning to study or visit Italy, the two main visas that you would be applying for both require proof of international health and travel insurance coverage. Most likely you will be applying for a Schengen Visa (for travel up to 90 days in length) or for a National Visa (which will cover any trips more than 90 days).
If you are covered by your school's insurance plan, you will need to show a letter from them detailing the coverage that you have with them as proof of coverage during your time abroad in Italy.

Your confirmation letter from your school or insurance company needs to state coverage dates, amount of coverage for medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation and hospital stays incurred in Italy during stay.
