International Student Health Insurance for Students in Sweden
When most people think of Sweden, they think of things like IKEA and ABBA. However, more and more international students, especially those from the UK, are choosing to study in Sweden. What exactly does Sweden have to offer international students?
Sweden is a great place to study for a high quality, if slightly unorthodox, education. Swedish universities are concerned with preparing their student for bright, successful futures. Courses involve a large amount of group work, and students at Swedish universities are expected to participate and volunteer their opinions and ideas during lectures, seminars, and group discussions.
Swedish classrooms are relaxed environments, with informal relationships between students and teachers. As a student in Sweden, you will be expected to refer to your teachers and professors by their first names.
According to the 2016 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, Sweden has three universities in the top 100 and eleven universities in the top 500 in the world. International students who choose to study in Sweden will have access to a one of a kind, high quality education that they will not be able to find anywhere else.
Everyone who lives or works in Sweden has equal access to health care services provided by the central government, county councils, and municipalities. Each of these organizations has different responsibilities in regards to health care.
Depending on where you are from and how long you intend to stay in Sweden, you may have access to the health care provided to Swedish citizens. This is true if you are from a Nordic, EU/EAA country or Switzerland, or if you are from a non-EU/EAA country, but are planning on staying in Sweden for longer than a year. If you are from a non-EU/EAA country and are planning to stay in Sweden for less than a year, you are not eligible for the health benefits afforded to Swedish citizens. You do have other options: your school may offer you a health insurance plan, or you may have to purchase your own private health insurance.
