International Student Insurance plans for Students on OPT
OPT, or Optional Practical Training, is employment authorization that allows F-1 students to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to practical work experience. Students may be entitled to have up to 12 months or more of Optional Practical Training before (pre-completion) or after (post-completion) they complete their degree program without the need to obtain an H1B visa. Most students opt to do their full 12 months of OPT after graduating, which is post-completion, but some students may choose to apply for pre-completion OPT and use some of the 12 months prior to completing their degree.
Students on post-completion OPT will typically not eligible for the school's insurance plan and your employer may not provide international student health insurance, or you may simply need coverage until you have found a permanent position. Either way, we can offer an opt international student insurance plan that will cover you for the entire period you need.
One of our most popular OPT insurance options is our Student Secure plan. You can purchase the plan while you are in school and keep it throughout your period of OPT, or you can purchase it after you graduate and start your job–or while waiting to find a job on OPT You can enroll in this plan for as little as 15 days, and you can keep the plan up to four years. For those that may not need as comprehensive coverage as the Student Secure, we also recommend the Atlas Travel Medical insurance plan:
The Student Secure offers monthly international student health insurance coverage with monthly payment options, and coverage available up to 4 years for OPT students:
The Atlas plan provides students with travel health insurance coverage while studying in the USA and is a good solution for OPT. Students can enroll from 5 days to one year and can choose their deductible and coverage
